Rosemary's Baby contains some interesting dialogue:

That's showbiz.

You don't have to respect him because he pretends he's holy.Okay. Good the protagonist is anti-Pope. And he is part of a religous group that seeks to bring forth change, via the birth of a principle figure "Adrian"

Why does "Adrian" have to be the son of satan, if "Adrian" is the challenger to the existing system of the Pope?
Because the scrip writers have the Pope representative of God, rather then that of Satan.
In short, the script adopts the pro ancient regime jesuitical FUTURIST definitions, with its inherent assumptions of the status quo being "good", and its challenger as "bad".
Such is the opposite of the Protestant HISTORICIST definitions of the Pope representing not God but Satan, as it is Satan who has been the master of the World.
